Intranet Redesign

We were asked to design and implement a new version of the Information Services team’s intranet, built on Microsoft SharePoint 2007.

The intranet is used by many of the organisation’s users to find information and get support for IT, but suffered from a lack of focus, a huge amount of information that had become stale or out-of-date, and many disparate design styles were competing for attention.

We performed user research to establish personas and their needs, and in a workshop we were able to work with stakeholders to redesign the site’s information architecture (IA) to meet the needs of the varied personas. We then worked with the team to implement the IA along with designing a new, consistent look-and-feel in SharePoint (all while retaining compatibility with the site’s existing brand and intranet guidelines).

Lastly, we produced two new SharePoint web parts to implement parts of the design that needed to be made easily reusable throughout the site, and which required custom development.

**Before:** The Information Services intranet home page before we began. It suffered from a lack of visual hierarchy, inappropriate information architecture and relied heavily on the built-in SharePoint theme.

**Stakeholder Workshop:** We workshopped the new intranet's Information Architecture (IA) with the key stakeholders based on 6 separate personas, each with different needs.

Digital signage

We were asked to design a series of attractive, branded digital signage screens to be implemented in-house using Omnivex Moxie. Each screen had to communicate something in particular, but also needed to be able to be updated easily as necessary by BlueScope’s own IS team.

Community billboard screens were designed to be used only periodically as necessary

The emergency screen was designed to be used only in extreme emergencies to avoid desensitising users to its meaning.
